The Mountaineers head to the North Central Regional Championships Nov. 1 2006 - The Western State cross country teams will compete in the North Central Regional Championship in Wayne, Nebraska. The Mountaineer women are ranked 4th in the NCAA II national rankings and the men 5th. Both teams are coming off second place finishes at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships on October 21 in Pueblo, CO. 25 women teams and 20 men teams will compete in the Regional meet. The region is the toughest in the nation with the top 5 men teams and the top 6 women's teams qualifying for the National Championships in Pensacola, Florida on November 18th. The women's 6000 meter race will be run at 10:00 and the men's 10,000 meter race will be ran at 11:15. The top ranked men's team Adams State will attempt to keep their top ranking and Adams State and Western State women, ranked 2nd and 4th respectively are expected to fight it out for the women's crown. The Mountaineer men will be led by sophomores Kim Horgarth and Aaron Clark, 2nd and 8th at the RMAC meet. The women will be led by conference champion, sophomore, Ester Komen along with Agnes Kroneraff who was 6th in the conference meet and freshman Elsa Goshu who finished 10th. The mountaineer women will have 3 juniors, 2 sophomores and 2 freshmen running; the Western State men will have 2 seniors, one junior, 3 sophomores, and one freshmen. The Western State men are defending national Champions while the women finished 3rd in 2005. |
